Tips For Decorating The Hallways Of The House

To prevent your hallways from becoming bare and lifeless, it’s important to know how to decorate them. Here are some tips on how to do this creatively.
Advice for decorating the hallways of the house

Through them we access different rooms, therefore, they are our passages. Despite this, we tend to forget that we also need to decorate the hallways of the house.

Although they’re not a priority, it doesn’t hurt to give them a little attention at any given time. After all, well-presented hallways will make transitions from one room to another much more pleasant.

When we imagine decorating a hallway, we usually think of only one thing: pictures on the wall. And frankly, how boring the image of a long hallway with paintings that we never stopped to look at becomes! Another element that might come to mind is the typical table with family photos.

Replicas of Monet’s paintings can be placed in more appropriate places than an aisle. To decorate the hallways of the house in a much more attractive and “fun” way, the best we can do is to be honest with ourselves and decorate with those elements that will stop our eyes and that we will use at some point. What elements are these? Find out below.

Elements to decorate the hallways of the house

Corridor decoration
  • A mirror. Yes, in general a mirror is the best when decorating a hallway, as it offers a certain feeling of spaciousness and light. It should be noted that it can be placed with or without a table underneath.
  • The table. It should preferably be narrow and without drawers, as desks with drawers promote the tendency to store things that later fall by the wayside. On the surface, you don’t need to fill it with photos and other objects. Just add a cute table runner and two original decorative items.
  • Medium and large decorative objects. If we have a more or less wide aisle, we can put medium-sized or large accessories. For example, you can put old lamps, a large vase (with flowers, branches or together with other vases of different sizes), etc.
  • The lamp. There are people who like to put lampshades with an exquisite finish and an air of ostentation. If this is your case, try to reduce the use of other elements, as this can make the lamp stand out as the main element. Be careful installing it at a height where people can bump into it and knock it down as they cross the hallway! If you choose a simple lampshade, look for it to offer good lighting so that you can easily appreciate all the elements.
  • The carpet. This is another optional element. A nice hallway rug can help make the house more cozy and warm, and it can help to unify the decor a bit.
  • Painting / wallpaper. If the hallway is wide and you want to give it character and color, you can decorate it with a wallpaper of your choice or with a coat of paint in some striking color. Another good idea is to use both elements to “break” a little with the visual continuity and achieve dynamism.
  • Murals. Nowadays, there are murals with images of very pleasant landscapes that, at first glance, create the illusion that the corridor does not end there, but that it connects with a natural space. The best thing about this type of element is that it can be customized.

Ideas for decorating the hallways of the house

A good idea to decorate a hallway is to make an element the protagonist. For example, if we’re going to focus on the chandelier hanging in the center of the hallway, we can paint the ceiling a light shade and add some sparkle so that when we turn on the light, we can simulate distant gemstones or “stars”. As far as the color palette is concerned, if the chandelier is golden or ocher, it’s a good idea to paint the hallway a light blue tone and the ceiling an even lighter color. Nude tones also work really well.

Another idea for decorating the hallways of the house is to leave the walls in white or one color, neutral, and place a colorful rug that draws a lot of attention not only in design, but also in texture. In this case, forget about accessories and bet on putting, at the end of the aisle, a basket with pillows of different sizes and colors. The result will be very welcoming.

We can also put the elements we mentioned before: lampshade, mirror and table, but trying to make one of these pieces different from the usual one. For example, instead of placing a square, circular or oval mirror with a simple frame, we can place a mirror that has a different shape or has some striking feature. Of course, on the table we will only place a few elements, such as two candles, a wooden figure or a plant.

When it comes to decoration, the last word will always be ours, as we are the ones who know the space best and what we want to do with it. Now, if these ideas caught your attention but don’t fit the hallways you have at home, don’t be afraid to experiment and make the necessary adjustments. One idea can lead you to another that’s even better and perfect for your environment.
