8 uses of white vinegar

The uses of white vinegar for the home are very varied. With this product, you can disinfect vegetables before preparing and consuming them, polish glass objects, clean windows, deodorize the refrigerator, remove stains on rugs and dishcloths, and even disinfect the washing machine.

Therefore, it  is considered to be one of the most common and easiest to obtain allies for cleaning the house.

Other uses of white vinegar

The uses of white vinegar are not limited to the disinfection of lettuce and plant foods. Did you know that it can also be used extensively for cleaning in other areas?

1. Combat marks on wood

First, if you have parquet at home or furniture that looks opaque or otherwise branded,  don’t hesitate to use white vinegar. Simply soak a cotton or linen cloth with a little of this compound to make the “magic” happen.

Keep in mind that vinegar will not completely remove the marks on the wood, but it can help to soften them. Mostly the latest ones.

2. Scare away ants and other insects

Secondly, one of the most common uses of white vinegar is undoubtedly to  act as an insect repellent. If there are any areas where ants accumulate, it is very helpful to moisten a cotton ball with white vinegar to scare them away.

You will see how good the result is. Don’t forget to change it every 3 days!

3. Get rid of rust

Undoubtedly, you have at home some container or tool that, because it is outdoors, ended up filling with rust. Before declaring these oxide-eaten objects lost, try the effective action of white vinegar.

To do this, first fill a container with white vinegar and then immerse the tool or the object taken by the rust. Finally, after two days the oxide will have lost strength and can be eliminated in a simple way.

4. Clean and deodorize the microwave

Something that usually characterizes microwaves is that, on a daily basis, they are impregnated with food scraps and bad smells.

To solve these problems, just put half a glass of water mixed with 5 tablespoons of vinegar and put it in the microwave for a minute.

The emitted steam will remove all these impurities in less than 10 seconds, as well as the bad smell. It never fails!

5. Improve the functioning of the coffee maker

Undoubtedly, on more than one occasion, when using your coffee maker you have noticed that the coffee was not ready so quickly and that the taste is no longer the same.

White vinegar is also used to  clean the coffee maker’s filters and optimize their operation. For this, if it is an espresso machine, put half a cup of water with white vinegar in the water tank. Then turn on the machine once, but without putting coffee in the container.

If your coffee maker is a bottle, first clean it with hot water and white vinegar for half an hour. The result is great!

6. Disinfect dish towels

To disinfect kitchen towels, many people soak them in a bowl of hot water and a little rock salt. This last ingredient is completely optional.

Procedure

  • Fill a basin with hot water.
  • Add salt (one tablespoon is enough).
  • Stir with a spoon and add the vinegar.
  • Soak dishcloths for at least 30 minutes.
  • Then rinse with the usual detergent and let it dry.

7. Clean glass bottles

Just as you can use white vinegar to clean windows and make them shiny, you can also use white vinegar to clean decorative glass objects such as brandy bottles and the like.

There are those who use it like this and there are those who dilute it with a little water. Either way, it works. Do the test!

8. Disinfect the washing machine

After washing a very dirty pair of sneakers (or other shoes), it is best to disinfect the washing machine. To do this, a wash cycle must be started with half a load, and instead of adding laundry detergent, just add a cup of white vinegar (200 ml).

When the washer has finished its cycle, we’ll see how the drum is clean and shiny.

The washing machine drum can be disinfected with white vinegar.

Is it a good idea to mix vinegar with other products?

White vinegar is a product that generally does not mix with anything to clean household surfaces. However, to polish and clean metals (from silver to steel) some people mix it with a little sodium bicarbonate.

What you should never do is mix vinegar with bleach or ammonia, as the resulting mixture can be dangerous to your skin and lungs.

Finally, remember that when cleaning, it is best to wear gloves. This way, you protect your skin from the products and avoid irritation, dryness and other adverse reactions.
